Sometimes the internet gets celebrities caught in random rumors that aren’t true, but they find a way to resurface from time to time. That’s the situation with Jennifer Aniston finds herself in with the very false story that she’s in a relationship with former President Barack Obama amid his rumored marital troubles with Michelle Obama. There seems to be a lot of fiction floating out there.
How did the Jennifer Aniston rumor begin?
In August 2024, In Touch Weekly published a cover story in their print edition titled, “The Truth About Jen & Barack.” The claim was that the duo was “obsessed with each other” and Michelle felt “betrayed” because Aniston stole away “her husband’s attention.” All it takes is one false story for a fan to believe that it’s true — even if Aniston has denied those accusations on camera.
In October, the 55-year-old actress appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to debunk the “cheesy tabloid” rumor where she handled the situation with her usual sense of humor.
“Of all the calls you get from your publicist where you’re like, ‘Oh no, what’s it gonna be?’ Or the emails saying some cheesy tabloid’s going to make up a story and then it’s that,” Aniston quipped. “I was not mad at it.”
She went on to clarify in case anyone didn’t get the joke, “It is untrue. I’ve met him [Obama] once. I know Michelle more than him.”
Why is the rumor resurfacing?
Michelle and Barack have been downplaying divorce rumors after she decided to back out of former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Insiders insisted that her absence was solely because of her personal feelings about the controversial president, whom she would have had to sit next to at Carter’s service. Still, the gossip about her marriage went into overdrive.
“There’s no overstating her feelings about [Trump]. She’s not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocol’s sake,” a source told People. “Michelle doesn’t do anything because it’s expected or it’s protocol or it’s tradition.”
That’s when social media influencer Melanie King shared unverified news about Aniston and Barack which recirculated the rumor all over again on Wednesday, Jan. 22. “BREAKING: A LEAKED DM from Jennifer Aniston’s friend CONFIRMS that she is dating Barack Obama and Divorcing Michelle has gone viral,” she wrote on X. There was no sourcing to her post, but she clipped an article that alleged that Barack was “with Jennifer Aniston.”
“My old manager, now a friend, is connected to her inner circle,” the unsourced article read. “At a gathering with Jennifer’s friends, the affair came up casually—Jennifer herself admitted it. They were sitting with a psychic, which makes it sound surreal, but it’s definitely not a secret among her closest friends.” King promised that there would “more to come,” but even her followers weren’t buying the story.
Fans have already heard from Aniston directly — there is no relationship with Barack. In fact, she barely knows him.
