Toyota has announced a recall affecting 140,000 vehicles in the U.S. due to various safety issues. This includes popular models such as the Toyota Camry, Corolla (including Corolla Cross and Cross Hybrids), Highlander (including hybrids), and Tacoma. Additionally, certain Lexus models such as the NX and RX are also involved. There are three distinct recalls addressing different concerns. Notably, approximately 106,000 Tacoma trucks from model years 2024 and 2025 are at risk of having damaged rear brake hoses that could develop problems from dirt build-up in off-road conditions, potentially leading to brake fluid leaks and increasing crash risks. Toyota plans to notify affected customers by the end of April, and all necessary repairs will be carried out free of charge. Furthermore, around 41,000 Toyota Camry, Lexus NX, and specific Lexus RX vehicles from 2024 and 2025 have been identified as having potentially damaged second-row seatbelts due to possible manufacturing defects. These seatbelts may not meet safety strength requirements, raising the likelihood of injury in an accident. Toyota will inform customers about needed inspections and replacements as well. Additionally, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recently flagged about 1,716 vehicles from model years 2023 and 2024 for another recall. The issue lies in a faulty electrical connection within the steering column's spiral cable assembly, which might disable the driver’s airbag upon deployment, heightening the risk of injury or fatalities. Owners should expect notifications by March 30, and necessary part replacements will also be conducted at no cost. If you suspect your vehicle may be affected, check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate against the NHTSA recall database or visit the Toyota recalls page for more information.
