Conclusion:

Candy Match is a game about matching icons on cards in order to score points. It is designed by Reiner Knizia.

Candy Match is a very simple game, but that does not mean it does not it is without merit. This is a real time matching game. As cards are flipped over the players will use the power of sight to match up icons as quickly as possible You cannot have any single candies left over; every piece must have a match.

This is a simple game to teach and play. You can play this with your gaming group or even with your children. The game has a level of simplicity to it that many are really going to enjoy. This could easily be sold in a mass market store and people would go home happy with a new little game.

The flaws of the game is it is in real time. If your eyes or mind can move quicker you will likely do better. The game is going to have a speed side of it that is built into it.

I would also state that I feel like I've played this game or similar games like it before. I remember one of the first games I ever played called Set where you had to race to see matches. This is very, very similar to that with a better theme and art work attached to it.

This is one of those small cards games that you likely already know if your group/family will enjoy the game. For us, it is not something that kept hitting the table. That is a sign that while we enjoy it while playing it, we are unlikely to keep request it.

Components:

The components are a single deck of cards. The art work is cute and obviously candy filled. The use of pink is nice and fits with the classic motif. The cards are fine quality and shuffle fine. The components will not stand out but the art work really helps out.

Rule Book:

The rule book is presented in full color with pictures provided. The rules have two languages with English in the back. The game lacks set up pictures or pictures of the components but they are not really needed. There is one example which clears up the entire game. This is a very simple game and you will need about two minutes to read the rules and one minute to explain.

Flow of the Game:

The game ends when the deck runs out of cards. The players check for matches one last time and the game ends. The player with the most cards is the winner.

On your turn, you flip over a card from the deck. The players, in real time, look for matches on the cards. The candies must match, but you cannot have any single candy left over. If you are correct, you keep the cards to score at the end of the game. If you are incorrect, the cards go back to the center and all the other players gain a random card for their scoring pile (thus gaining a VP for end game).

Should I buy this game?:

If you have a sweet tooth in your family, then I think they will really like this theme. The core game is matching the pictures as quickly as you can. I can recommend this for younger gamers or people looking for a short fast action card game.
