Buffalo Chess is an asymetric 2-player game that sees you play as the buffalo, or the cowbow and his dogs. The buffalo player is trying to get one of your Buffalo across to the other river and rhe cowboy is trying to stop all Buffalo from reaching the other side by capturing them, or placing tokens in their way to stop them being able to move.
Things I Liked:
🐮 The Asymetry is well balanced. Each different element moves in a specific way, and there are challenges around each of these.
🐮 There is an option if you play several games in a row to increase difficulty for the winning game player by removing pieces so that they need to work more tactically with what they have left
🐮 As with other Playte games, the design is on point. The box folds out into the board and is magnetic, so it holds together well when packed away.
🐮 The game is very quick (5-10 mins), and it's super quick to learn the rules and get playing.
Things I Liked Less:
🐕 In general, I really liked the components. However, the colour choice for the dogs felt a little weird (they're a dark blue). Doesn't impact gameplay, just personal preference.
🐕 Honestly, having chess in the title put me off a little. However, I would say it serves just to indicate that pieces move across the board in a similar way to some chess pieces.
Overall, it's a decent 2-player strategy game that's good as a filler game or a quick game. The design and portability make it a good option for taking out with you.
