Report: Status of Penguins’ Rust unclear for Saturday’s clash with Kraken
The Pittsburgh Penguins may be without a key forward.
Head coach Mike Sullivan said Bryan Rust is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, team play-by-play announcer Jeff Getzoff reported Friday.
Pittsburgh is set to face the Seattle Kraken on Saturday and it remains unclear whether Rust will be available.
Rust was ruled out of Thursday night’s 5-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks after heading down the tunnel late in the second period.
The 32-year-old was absent from the team’s practice on Friday in Anaheim.
Rust, who entered Thursday with three goals in four games, has been placed on the injured reserve twice this season with a lower-body injury and missed seven games.
Sullivan will be forced to find a replacement on the top-line with Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell if he is not ready for Saturday.
Anthony Beauvillier could be an option, having previously played with Crosby and picked up the most ice-time in Rust’s spot on Thursday.
The Penguins are in the midst of a seven-game road trip and are right in the mix for the final two Eastern Conference Wild-Card spots.
