Rashad Evans Says Inclusion on GFL’s Team Los Angeles Was “Without Consent”

Former UFC light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans was announced as being part of the GFL (Global Fight League)’s Team Los Angeles on Friday, and it’s news to him.

Evans (20-8-1) wasn’t among the names selected in the four rounds of drafting that transpired on the DAZN Sports Youtube channel and other outlets on Friday, but when the league announced all teams (at once, in place of round five, confirming suspicions that the draft was not live), “Suga” had been earmarked for the L.A. team coached by Wanderlei Silva.

Silva and coach Rafael Cordeiro did appear on the broadcast, as did Team Los Angeles’s first pick (and second pick overall in the draft), Sage Northcutt. Evans did not, and it appears that, even if he were to agree to fight in the GFL season, expected to launch in April, he couldn’t – he’s committed to a boxing match with rival Rampage Jackson.

The bigger problem is, Evans didn’t even consent to his inclusion on the team.

When Jackson publicly questioned how Evans was on Team Los Angeles given the pair’s pending date, Evans replied by saying “I’m NOT!! Let me be clear! The only commitment I have is to lay yo ass out in April!! I was added to this without my consent!! You ain’t off the hook that easy!”

Evans, 45, has not fought in MMA since a January 2022 win over Gabriel Checco under the Eagle FC banner, which at the time marked his first fight in over three years. Cageside Press has reached out to Rashad Evans and GFL officials for comment.
