A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect on Saturday, February 8, for several counties in Mid-Michigan and Northern Michigan. This warning is prompted by an incoming snow system that will lead to worsening driving conditions throughout the day. The advisory is set from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrossa from MLive provided insights into the weekend's changing forecast. The counties affected include Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Leelanau, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Manistee, Wexford, and Missaukee. Snow accumulations may range from 2 to 6 inches in these areas, with significant snowfall expected to arrive from the southwest by Saturday morning. The most intense conditions are likely to occur south of M-72 in the afternoon, where snowfall rates could reach up to 1 inch per hour, resulting in snow-covered and slick roads. Snowfall is anticipated to continue into Saturday night, tapering off by Sunday morning. Areas such as Frankfort, Cadillac, and Manistee are predicted to receive between 4 to 6 inches of snow, while Gladwin and Houghton may see around 3 to 4 inches. Meanwhile, locations like Gaylord, Grayling, Mio, and Oscoda can expect 2 to 3 inches, as noted by the NWS. It's important to mention that southeast Michigan is not under this Winter Weather Advisory.
