NBA Trade Rumors: De’Aaron Fox & Jimmy Butler Latest, Multiple Big Men On The Market, Atlanta Buzz
We’re officially less than a week away from the NBA Trade deadline. While we haven’t had a major move yet, as they always seem to do, things are starting to heat up around the Association. Jimmy Butler and De’Aaron Fox are very much in play. Both have preferred destinations, but the two situations seem very fluid at the moment.
Let’s get to those two plus the rest of the NBA trade rumors flying around as the February 6th nears!
NBA Trade Rumors
- The biggest new name out on the market is none other than Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox. While he’s not necessarily demanding a trade, his agent let Sacramento know that it’s probably in their best interest to move Fox now, as it doesn’t appear the point guard will be signing an extension prior to hitting free agency in 2026.
- As we discussed Tuesday, the preferred destination for Fox is reportedly San Antonio, where he can play with Victor Wembanyama. However, that doesn’t mean that is the only place the veteran point guard is open to. While the Kings explore the market for their star guard, ESPN’s Shams Charania is reporting that their desired return is “win-now” players. I will say, that would make a Spurs deal somewhat tricky. San Antonio’s top assets are draft picks and young players, not necessarily the type of haul that can come in and help the Kings compete right away. It takes two to make a deal, so the Kings can ask for whatever they want, but it doesn’t mean they’ll get it. I still think San Antonio ends up being the deal, but the Kings will explore all their options. As always, I wouldn’t be surprised if a third team got involved.
- The other big fish who we’ve been talking about for seemingly months is Jimmy Butler. While everyone seems to be waiting on the Suns to see if they can find a taker for Bradley Beal, other teams are entering the fray. When this saga first began, it appeared that Memphis and Sacramento were two teams that Butler didn’t want to go to. While that still seems to be the case for the Kings, Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated reported on the Ryen Russillo Podcast that Memphis might end up being a team to watch after all.
- Ryen Rusillo followed up Mannix’s point playing devil’s advocate to some extent, essentially saying Butler’s attitude and desire to be in Memphis might be a little bit of a risk. While it’s a big if, if Butler were to go there and gel with the bigger personalities, that feels like a team that would be a really tough out in a seven-game series, as well as one that would fit Butler’s on-court attitude pretty well. Still feels like a long shot there, but it’s something to keep an eye on.
- Speaking of Jimmy Butler, the Warriors are reportedly back interested in him after pursuing other avenues, though some reports have them as more interested in Zach LaVine. Eli wrote all about LaVine and the Warriors, you can check that out here.
- As the Chicago Bulls continue to shop Nikola Vucevic, a few other big men are having their names floated around. First, the Toronto Raptors are pretty open for business, but their center Jakob Poeltl is coming with a fairly large price tag. Poeltl, according to Dan Woike of the LA Times, has an asking price of “more than a first-round pick,” which to me feels like something Toronto might have a tough time getting. With several big men such as Poeltl, Vucevic, and Jonas Valanciunas available, I’m not so sure Toronto is going to get more than a first in return, and maybe they’re ok with that. Poeltl is under contract through next year and comes with a cap hit of $19.5 million. Could this be something they revisit in the offseason?
- Another center whose name is being floated around the trade market is Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers. NBA Insider Marc Stein is reporting that the Pacers’ phones are “undeniably ringing” with team interest in Turner. The Pacers’ center hits unrestricted free agency this summer, so naturally, teams are checking in to see if Indiana would part ways with him before risking losing him for nothing. However, Stein mentioned that the sense is that the Pacers do not want to trade Turner. While obviously risking losing him for nothing isn’t great, Indiana has played some really good basketball after their slow start. Last year they made a run to the Eastern Conference Finals. It would be pretty surprising for them to move Turner while they appear to be competitive in the wide-open East.
- The Atlanta Hawks have also come up an increasing amount over the last few days. Marc Stein has reported that Bogdan Bogdanovic is on the trade block after a sluggish first half of the season. A 38.0 percent career shooter from downtown, the veteran wing is only averaging 10.0 points on 30.1 percent shooting from long range this season. He is also owed $16.0 million next year but does have a team option in 2026-27. Will a playoff team bet on his resume and hope they can turn him around? He also isn’t the only long-time Hawks player up for grabs. Clint Capela remains on the trade block after being benched for Onyeka Okongwu.
