Liam Gallagher responds to Bring Me The Horizon’s cover of Oasis’ ‘Wonderwall’

Liam Gallagher has shared his verdict on Bring Me The Horizon’s new cover of the Oasis classic ‘Wonderwall’.

The version was released earlier today (January 29) as part of the Spotify Singles series and it sees the Sheffield band stamp their own distinctive trademark on the track, some 30 years after its original release.

Noel Gallagher’s original acoustic guitar part is swapped out for a chunky electric riff, while frontman Oli Sykes belts out the iconic lyrics amid the immense drums of Mat Nicholls. Listen to the cover here:

Now, the song’s original vocalist has had his say on the version. Responding to a post sharing the track on X, he wrote: “I fucking LOVE it”.

In a later post, Liam responded to someone predicting that he would be “so pissed off” over the cover. “I’m not it’s absolutely incredible made my day I’m of out on my skateboard fuck y’all,” he wrote.

Bring Me The Horizon have also recreated the ‘Wonderwall’ video, with the four band members sitting in a straight line while bassist Matt Kean sits on their left reading a newspaper. All profits from the track will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust, which you can find out more about here.

The cover is the latest in Spotify’s long-running collection, with BMTH joining the likes of IDLES, Wet Leg and LCD Soundsystem in contributing a cover of their choice by one of their musical heroes.

The metal band have been announced as one of the headliners for Reading & Leeds 2025, alongside Chappell Roan, Travis Scott, and Hozier. Visit here for tickets.

Although they have played at the twin-site festival countless times in the past, their only headline appearance to date was for their epic set back in 2022, when they shared top-billing with but played before fellow Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys.

Last year, the group spoke to NME about the huge positive response they received for ‘Nex Gen’ – which was named as one of NME‘s Best Albums Of 2024 – as well as the R&L slot and what the future holds.

“Now it feels a little more exciting and like there’s a little more pressure because there are no ifs-and-buts about it,” they said of the headline slot, comparing it to their 2022 appearance. “We’re the last band on that day and once again we’ve got something to prove.

Oasis, meanwhile, are set to play some huge shows across the UK and Ireland this summer as part of their long-awaited reunion tour. Following the local gigs, the band will head overseas for a number of international dates.

So far, little is known about which members will be joining Liam and Noel Gallagher for the massive gigs, although the frontman has been sharing hints about the setlists and the hopes for new material.

Liam also recently shared his love of the Sex Pistols, despite Glen Matlock describing Oasis as “boring”. “I remember when I first laid eyes on this record I thought it was the fucking Ouija board. Then I heard it and all heaven broke loose,” he wrote. “If you don’t own it go buy it NOW”.
