Kelly Rutherford’s Son Towers Over Her in First Public Appearance Together in a Decade
Kelly Rutherford’s little boy is not-so-little anymore. The mother-son duo made their first official public outing in nearly 10 years, and Hermés — who Rutherford shares with her bitterly estranged ex-husband Daniel Giersch, along with 15-year-old daughter Helena — towered over her.
The Gossip Girl alum and her growing 17-year-old son stepped out for multiple shows at Paris Fashion Week, and they did so in style. At the Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2025 show, Rutherford wore a classic belted black dress and chunky platform heels, while Hermés wore a simple dark suit. At the Patou Menswear Fall-Winter 2025/2026 show, Rutherford paired another conservative black ensemble with a chunky gold necklace and white strappy heels, while Hermés looked more laid back in a brown aviator jacket and sneakers. And at the Rahul Mishra Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2025 show, Rutherford stunned in florals while her son paired a dark blazer with navy slacks.
Even with her high heels, Hermés had a good couple of inches on his mom who stands at 5’8″.
The last time Rutherford and her son posed for photographers was in July 2025 when they and Helena attended the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund’s Super Saturday NY. The trio wore coordinating white outfits (very Hamptons of them!), and a towheaded Hermés barely reached his mom’s shoulder.
Rutherford and Giersch had a highly publicized international custody battle that spanned six years, cost the actress more than $2 million, and involved claims of abduction, per The Daily Mail.
In Feb. 2024, Rutherford opened up to People about the “challenging” and “heartbreaking” experience and what life has looked like since. “Sometimes we just need to retreat and be with our kids and just heal and take time for ourselves,” she told the outlet from her home in Monaco.
” … My kids are getting older, and they’re sort of like, ‘Okay, get on with your life,'” she joked. “They’re teenagers now, and they’ve got their friends and their stuff.”
” … They still need you when they’re teens, but it’s different. I think you just have to be there for them when they do need you … It’s a change, but it’s a beautiful change.”
