The Gulf of Mexico, a significant body of water, has been officially renamed the Gulf of America for users accessing Google Maps in the United States. This alteration is in agreement with an executive order signed by former President Donald Trump. Google has affirmed its commitment to updating geographical names based on official government records. Consequently, users in the U.S. will see the Gulf of America, while those in Mexico will still identify it as the Gulf of Mexico. International users will have access to both names concurrently. Notably, this shift also includes the anticipated update of Mount McKinley’s name back to its original designation, Denali, although this change has not yet been reflected in Google Maps. Trump's order, enacted shortly after he took office, aims to honor American heritage and criticized previous efforts to rename important landmarks. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is also in the process of updating maps and data to reflect these changes, alongside the U.S. Coast Guard's efforts to incorporate the new name into public notifications.
