Each week I keep an eye out for the latest edtech resources through blogs, social media, podcasts, videos, user groups, and more. I then try to reshare these resources in many ways.
One way I share these is here on the blog in these "EdTech Links of the Week" posts. See below to explore the latest batch of resources, and be sure to share with others who may benefit.

Last week at BETT, Google announced their new "Class Tools" for Chromebooks to help teachers with classroom management and to help students with learning. This includes features such as:
- Pushing content out to student devices
- Sharing your screen to students
- Viewing student screens
- Enabling live captions and translation of what you are saying in class
I did a deep dive into the content and put together a detailed overview of what we know so far, which you can access at the link above.

📰 What's New in Google?Resource Link
Feel free to join us online Thursday, January 30th at 1pm (EST) for our monthly GEG-Ohio Google User Group meeting. These are monthly online meetings where we cover all of the new features and updates from Google from the last month, as well as great ideas for using Google tools in school. You can view (and add to) the agenda at the link above.
⏳ Time PortalResource Link
- This is a daily educational game where you try to identify a random historical event (sort of like GeoGuessr but for history).
- To play you are shown four AI-generated videos that help recreate a historical event.
- You then click on the map where you think the event happened, and choose a date on the timeline when you think it occurred.
- You then get points based on how close you were in place and time.
- The game then lists the name of the event and gives detailed descriptions for what each video is depicting.
- This is a fun twist on using AI to generate videos to create a more immersive and engaging learning activity for students.
⌨️ EntertrainedResource Link
- Although speech-to-text tools are getting better all the time, the ability to type is still a valuable skill.
- There are loads of typing games and skill builders to help learners of any age and any ability.
- One more to add to that list is "Entertrained".
- Instead of typing random sentences, here you type the actual text from over 100 famous novels including Pride and Prejudice, The Count of Monte Cristo, Little Women, The Great Gatsby, and more.
- As you type, your stats are calculated including speed, accuracy, consistency and more.
- So you can improve your typing skills, while reading a famous story.
🕹️ ICT Math GamesResource Link
- This site contains over 120 free educational math games aimed at children between 5 and 8 years old.
- The games cover math skills in categories including: Numbers and place value, Addition & subtraction, Multiplication & division, Fractions, Measurement, Geometry and more
- Each game includes information on learning objectives and step by step directions for playing.
- The games are all super cute with fun animations and sound effects.
- Note: Because these are created in the UK, there are some British references in a few games such as pounds and pence when dealing with money.
✍️ GroovelitResource Link
Last summer I shared about Groovelit which is a free AI-powered site that provides a range of interactive writing games for students. Activities include Set the scene, Finish the story, Personal narrative, Persuasive paragraph, Hot take debate, and more.
In each case the student is given a few minutes to write and the AI evaluates their writing as they go and awards points as they fulfill the requirements of the activity. The free version includes unlimited students and games, as well as customization.
Recently the paid version of Groovelit added Mastery tracks so teachers can assess 24 standards-aligned writing skills for their students including:
- Argumentative Writing - Claims, Evidence, Counterclaims, Punctuation, Transition Words & more
- Narrative Writing - Similes, Metaphors, Sensory Adjectives, Vivid Verbs, Complex Sentences & more
Sign up at Groovelit to use the unlimited free features forever and try out the new skills tracker for 30 days.
