Chicago Bears 2024 Exit Interviews: Jaquan Brisker

The nightmare that was the 2024 Chicago Bears season is over. Before the transactional period starts and the roster changes begin, we will recap the seasons of most of the 53-man roster. Next up: We’re looking at the 2024 season of safety Jaquan Brisker.

Jaquan Brisker’s 2024 Snapshot

Jaquan Brisker delivered a massive hit to Carolina Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble in Chicago’s Week 5 blowout victory over Carolina. The hit knocked both Brisker and Tremble out of the game, and unfortunately, it ended Brisker’s season. Brisker never could clear the league’s concussion protocol and finished the 2024 season on injured reserve.

Brisker’s latest concussion was his third diagnosed concussion in the past three seasons. He missed two games after suffering a concussion against the Atlanta Falcons during his rookie season in 2022, then missed two games last season after sustaining a concussion against the Las Vegas Raiders. In all, Brisker has missed 16 games in three seasons as a result of three separate concussions.

Before his season-ending concussion in Week 5, Brisker was putting together a solid season, with standout games against the Houston Texans in Week 2 and the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4. The third-year safety recorded 40 tackles, an interception, a sack, and a forced fumble in five games.

Brisker was on pace to set career-highs in tackles, sacks, forced fumbles, and interceptions through the first five weeks of the season, making his season-ending injury all the more frustrating.

By the Numbers

  • Tackles: 40
  • Sacks: 1
  • Tackles for loss: 3
  • Forced Fumbles: 1
  • Interceptions: 1
  • PFF Defensive Grade Grade: 65.3
  • PFF Coverage Grade: 63.5

Contract Status

Brisker is heading into the final year of his rookie deal and is set to make $3.325 million in base salary and $632,371 via signing bonuses, representing a $3,957,371 million cap number in 2025. Cutting Brisker before June 1 would create $632,371 in dead cap space and a cap savings of $3.325 million for Chicago.

Turning the Page

Before going down with his season-ending concussion, Brisker was on pace for roughly 130 tackles and career-highs in almost every statistic. He was having an excellent season and was likely on his way to earning consideration for a contract extension in the offseason. Instead, Brisker will return to the Bears in 2025 on the final year of his rookie contract, looking to prove that he can stay on the field and continue to produce at the level he was before his season ended prematurely in 2024.
