We got in touch with our friends Asgar/Gabriel this week as they opened a new solo show, Ignore the mess but don't take off your shoes on view Ernst Hilger Gallery, Vienna. The duo of Daryoush Asgar & Elisabeth Gabriel, born 1975 in Teheran and Vienna, respectively, paintings the illusionary space is permeable and full of optical traps in the superimposition of a variety of pop-cultural elements. The hybrid creatures that populate it condense into transhumanist portraits. Asgar/Gabriel's critical, sometimes hilarious examination of art-historically entrenched visual and narrative hierarchies borrows as much from the post-impressionist movement of Intimism as it does from Post-Internet Art.
